Ospina Medical

Ospina Medical was founded to answer the need for revolutionary Regenerative Medicine and Interventional Spine and Joint care in New York City. Our practice specializes in Regenexx® procedures and non-surgical orthopedic treatments that are tailored to restore function through precise, minimally invasive techniques that utilize the most innovative technology and current scientific evidence.

The name Ospina comes from the combined Latin roots for bone (Os) and spine (Spina), and we feel it perfectly embodies our commitment to healing musculoskeletal injuries related to painful spine and joint conditions. Our goal is to completely modernize the patient experience by utilizing a collaborative approach to your care that will help uncover the root cause of your pain and allow us to optimize your health and function. This is accomplished through a unique personalized medicine approach, where we review your complete medical history, all diagnostic imaging, personal goals and associated lifestyle factors. Using this information and by working with you, our physicians create a custom-tailored treatment plan to alleviate your pain using the most advanced non-surgical and regenerative medicine techniques available in the industry today.

About Us

Our Philosophy

on Regenerative Medicine

Precision Biologics

The crux of many of our treatments revolves around what is known as biologics. Using advanced biotechnology, we can modify the biological response of certain aspects of your body in order to alter the natural operation of intracellular and cellular actions. In this way, we can help the body fight against the source of your problems.

Precision Diagnosis

Our state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment allows our staff to quickly and effectively identify the cause of your pain, allowing us to find the best possible form of treatment for you. No matter if your pain is in your head, shoulders, hips, feet, or anywhere else on your body, we'll get to the root of exactly what's ailing you.

Precision Treatment

Once your problem has been diagnosed and we've discussed your questions and concerns, Dr. Kohler can begin constructing a treatment plan designed to eliminate or manage your condition. All of our treatments are completely safe and have led to incredible results for many of our orthopedic patients.

Our Treatments

Conditions

Head & Neck

Head & Neck

Headaches, migraines, and TMJ syndrome are just a few of the conditions that can significantly affect the head and neck. Our talented team is incredibly experienced in diagnosing problems in these areas in order to alleviate pain and discomfort.

Shoulder

Shoulder

As the most mobile joint in the entire body, the shoulder can often be susceptible to wear and tear, causing various types of pain in the area. We can treat various ailments, including torn rotator cuff, arthritis, impingement syndrome, and pinched nerves.

Spine & Back

Spine & Back

Our back is an incredibly intricate structure of bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and discs. This combined with its length can make it incredibly susceptible to strains, ruptured or bulging discs, sciatica, osteoporosis, and other forms of injury.

Hand & Wrist

Hand & Wrist

While the hands and wrist can be prone to sudden injury, they can also be affected by long-term conditions, such as arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome. Fortunately, a quick consultation with our staff can have you on the road to recovery in no time.

Elbow

Elbow

Traditionally, elbow injuries are caused by sports injuries, especially during tennis, golf, boxing, or baseball. However, this isn’t always the case as there are at least seven types of elbow disorders that could be the source of your pain and discomfort.

Hip & Sacroilliac (SI) Joint

Hip & Sacroilliac (SI) Joint

Contrary to the name, hip pain can also be felt in areas, including the groin and/or thighs. The position of the pain tends to signify what the root of your pain might be, allowing our team to construct a personal treatment plan to eliminate your pain.

Knee & Leg

Knee & Leg

Pain in the knees and/or legs can be caused by a variety of problems due to the abundance of bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, blood vessels, nerves, and skin. Generally, however, pain typically stems from inflammation of tissue resulting from conditions, such as diabetic neuropathy, deep vein thrombosis, and nerve damage.

Foot & Ankle

Foot & Ankle

85% of all ankle injuries are due to sprain, though there are a number of other injuries and medical conditions that can affect the feet and/or ankles, including osteoarthritis, gout, blocked blood vessels, broken bones, and joint infections.

Our Founder

Dr. Matthew Kohler had his residency at Columbia University Medical Center and pursued additional fellowship training in Pain Medicine after residency. Dr. Kohler stayed on as a fellow in New York City at Columbia University Medical Center where he began to develop an interest in Regenerative Medicine and how its applications could transform the way we practice interventional pain medicine. He attended advanced training courses through the Interventional Orthopedic Foundation and helped established Ospina Medical as a practice where he could provide an elite level of care for his patients. Ospina Medical was founded on the premise that care should never be rushed or algorithmic and that by combining cutting edge regenerative medicine therapies with time tested interventional pain techniques, we could dramatically improve patient outcomes and functional well-being.

"On first arrival Dr. Kohler and his staff at Ospina Medicine were warm and welcoming. He was precise in his knowledge and explained all parts of both my pain management due to previous injury, and preventative measures for future treatment.  Their New York City based state of the art technology and contemporary office made me feel at ease immediately.  As someone with continual back pain, and as someone who wants to avoid opioid treatment, the very nature of Ospina Medical using non-opioid approaches to pain management for me was a big bonus.  The results have been brilliant, and I am so pleased to have Dr. Kohler to help me through my pain management process."

"Dr Maniam and his staff are excellent. Renya at the front desk is always friendly and makes me feel comfortable. There’s a real sense that they care about their patients. I’ve had numerous spinal epidural‘s and radio frequency ablations, they’ve been painless and have gotten excellent results. This is the best pain management group that I’ve been to and I’ve been to more than a few... I highly recommend Ospina!"

"I've had 3 cortisone injections with Ospina and I'm amazed by the care they take when applying the injections. I can't believe how well it works and what good care they take of me. (I had received an injection somewhere else and it was more painful, bruised badly, and didn't last near as long.) I will ONLY go to Ospina now. The staff and doctors are truly WONDERFUL. Don't hesitate!"
